Art History in…Scandal

Ah, Scandal, you wonderful mess you.  In between the ridiculous (and grotesque) actions the characters do, you offer beautiful scenes of monuments and paintings found in Washington, D.C.  For example, when you show Olivia Pope’s office, you show the Washington Monument and how it acts as a connection to the White House.  Wonder what Freud would think, given that it obviously symbolizes Pope’s ties with the President.

And then you give me this episode:

Because when you show an argument between a married head of state and his mistress, you drop in Fragonard’s The Progress of Love: The Pursuit for a cameo appearance.

Especially funny, given who requested this painting.

But that wasn’t enough, for you close the episode with a litany of paintings!
