Art History Radio: “Fourteen Black Paintings” by Peter Gabriel

A beautiful and haunting melody, but I noticed various sources can’t determine which artist inspired Gabriel to compose this song. While the official source says it was Mark Rothko that acted as Gabriel’s muse, others cite Francisco Goya.  Any reason why this confusion occurred besides both artists created fourteen works of art that represented a period/series?
On that note, let’s look at some examples of Francisco Goya’s own fourteen black paintings.
