“The Abyss of Hell” by Sandro Botticell

I am now in the middle of a writer’s block/don’t wanna edit my drafts phase now.  So, for this October, I wish to dedicate this month (by slightly stealing The Year of Halloween‘s shtick, so go check her out) to art history’s dark side, starting with Sandro Botticelli.

“The Abyss of Hell” 1480

Such a contrast to Botticelli’s iconic paintings of nature and pagan goddesses frolicking around.

From Canto 4 of Dante’s Inferno:

“The sixfold company in two divides;
Another way my sapient Guide conducts me
Forth from the quiet to the air that trembles;

And to a place I come where nothing shines.”
