Art History in “The Luminous Dead” by Caitlin Starling

I recently read the horror/sci-fi novel The Luminous Dead, and it is about a character who investigates an imposing cavern on a planet that is not Earth. While exploring, she wears an outfit designed to protect her from any of the cavern’s dangers. When she encounters a dead person wearing an outfit similar to hers, she compares the suit to an old-fashioned type of coffin. In fact, if you type in the exact term the text uses in a search engine, you will find different kinds of coffins, but I am pretty sure the pictures I embedded in this blog post were more what the character had in mind when she made the comparison.
