How do I adore The Thing, let me count the ways: The lovingly shot winter landscape that I would kill to see projected on an IMAX screen, Kurt Russell’s beard, and of course, the Things themselves.  Every time I see them in all their grotesque, violating, horrifying glory, they call to mind Francis Bacon’s paintings.  After all, both film and artist depicted humans in a state of disfigurement.
