Art History at the Movies! “The Devil Bat”

While examining bizarre deaths caused by a bat, the reporter John Layton jokingly calls his assistant/photographer “One Shot” Macguire “Rembrandt.” Early in the film, a scene features a laboratory owned by Dr. Carruthers (played by Bela Lugosi). Looking closely, you can see a group portrait by that Dutch Baroque painter hanging on one of the walls.

And what painting was it?
