This BBC iPlayer adaptation (no longer available) of Honore De Balzac’s story mentions the Taj Mahal.  Did that intend to act as a contrast to the patriarch Grandet?  Where the Taj Mahal originally acted as a gift to a wife from a husband, but Grandet, characterized as a penny pincher, barely gave his wife anything.
