Full Title:
Prehistoric Textile Art of Eastern United States
Thirteenth Annual Report of the Bureau of American Ethnology to the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution 1890
In comparison to the first document, this work has a much more focused direction. He shows much more enthusiasm, and his prose only towards the occasionally dry. Similar to the first report, he spares no detail. This time, he also talks about weaving and pottery and how the American tribes used them. Such as nets and clothing. He also goes beyond basketry such as how they combined fabric and pottery or copper in their work. He also compares the works of American Tribe’s use of material to what others use, such as the Swedes. He’s still racially insensitive.
Tribes mentioned:
Cherokee
Hakluyt
Massawomeck Targets
Mosco
Choctaw
Sauteurs
Peruvian
He also covers all the Southern States from Kentucky to Florida, as well as Tribes from NJ and Pennsylvania. Another good document to check out.
