Looking back on the Da Vinci Code Franchise

I read The Da Vinci Code years ago (borrowed it from a friend) with no idea what to expect.  Thanks to the novel’s fast pace, I practically finished the book in one day.  It definitely inflamed the feminist part of me (relax, I put it in perspective).  While I am aware of the multitude of criticisms towards this novel (which I agree with), I did have one complaint.  When I came to the chapter where they try to decipher Leonardo’s writing, in my head, I thought “He wrote backwards,”  Also known as ‘mirror writing’.  As they continued to wonder, I repeated that in my head over and over until the end of the chapter they realized, “He wrote backwards!”

I wanted to scream at these people.  I have known this little factoid ever since my teenage years.  If I could remember, what stopped two grown people from not figuring this out quickly?

Also, could the name Leigh Teabing sound anymore English?

Another funny note, when I studied abroad in Italy, the program had an “Angels and Demons Tour” of Rome.  I did not take it myself, but some others did, the tour revolved around what Dan Brown did wrong in his book.
